Senior Engineer – WiFi Design & Integration

Federated Wireless develops technologies that maximize the utilization of spectrum resources, further advancing the wireless revolution. The Senior Engineer ­ Wi-Fi Design and Integration will be working with a start-up team on cutting-edge wireless spectrum management and access products. This hands-on development role requires being able to independently specify, design, develop, deploy and maintain assigned projects in all phases of the project life cycle. The Senior Engineer will be required to design components or sub-components, and then follow through with the integration and testing of the same. Eligible candidates should have the ability to work in a start-up environment where self-motivation, independence and teamwork are mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Brings hands-on system expertise in the design, integration and testing of Wi-Fi Access Points, Wi-Fi Controllers in the Enterprise and Wi-Fi clients
  • Demonstrates expert level understanding of IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) standards and its evolution, including interaction of Wi-Fi Access Points with Enterprise Wi-Fi Controllers (such as the CAPWAP standard) and with Wi-Fi Clients in mobile devices
  • Demonstrates ability to evaluate 3rd party Wi-Fi solutions in detail and make intelligent decisions regarding performance and integration and suitability to product requirements
  • Provides requirements analysis, and develops system, software, hardware and RF architectures, as required, to meet requirements
  • Writes functional & design specifications
  • Reports status against project plan
  • Drives automation in integration and QA testing
  • Interfaces with other design teams to resolve design, implementation, and deployment issues
  • Brings software development project experience using latest development paradigms and frameworks 

Requirements

  • Hands-on IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) design and integration expertise
  • Understanding of various IEEE 802.11 wireless architectures, including convergence architectures for Wi-Fi Data Offload from cellular networks (ANDSF, Hot-Spot 2.0)
  • Understanding of 4G LTE technology desirable
  • Understanding of IP networks, IP mobility and Enterprise Services
  • Has developed & debugged 802.11 protocols, efficient in analyzing & debugging via various analysis tools to produce highest quality HW and SW implementation
  • Has created automated frameworks for testing end-to-end integration
  • Understanding of modern development paradigms, specifically, the agile (scrum) development environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast pace, diversified, and global environment

Education and Other Qualifications

  • Masters or Ph.D Degree in Electrical or Computer Science Engineering
  • 5+ years of direct development & deployment experience
  •  

Location: Boston, MA or San Jose, CA or Arlington, VA

 Travel: May be required as deemed necessary to the growth and expansion of the company
