Do you enjoy working with cutting edge technology in a creative, out of the box thinking environment?  Do you love to learn and explore new technology?

We are currently recruiting for position based in Bethesda for a SysAdmin with experience in managing small-to-medium installations running Linux Servers in public and private cloud environments for a security startup.  Some Windows Server management on virtualized hosts will also be required.

Experience working with mobile software and testing mobile devices which use cloud services a major plus.  Experience with Voice Over IP (Asterisk) and XMPP servers an even bigger plus.

We employ Development Operations methodologies as our systems and services are intimately intertwined - you will be working directly on the software development teams.  You will be responsible for deploying the backend technologies that enable secure data transmission between mobile devices and servers using our proprietary technology which is a microSD cryptoprocessing solution.

This role requires a diverse skill set and ideal for someone with a lot of enthusiasm for technology even if your experience in one given area is light.  The ability to learn quickly, explore solutions, and creatively solve problems in the IT realm is the most important trait for this job.  A track record working in a small, fast-paced, very technology focused environment is key to success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work effectively with little direct supervision
  • Conscious of security and attention to detail related to making systems highly secure
  • Know who to ask and where to look for help when it is not readily available (online and offline)
  • Self-motivate and proactively seek ways to optimize systems and procedures
  • Want to learn from some veterans of the security, mobile and systems administration fields

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • 3-5 years managing Linux in a hosted or cloud environment
  • 1-3 years working with virtualized systems (VMWare) or cloud platforms (AWS, OpenStack)
  • Familiar with the Open Source sysadmin community and with the standards and tools commonly used
  • Expert in working on the command line, writing scripts (in various languages), using text editors
  • Some exposure managing basic Windows Servers in a corporate LAN setting (Active Directory)
  • Working with version control tools (Git, Subversion)
  • Working with configuration management tools (Chef, Puppet)
  • Working to setup monitoring software to proactively catch problems
  • Documenting procedures and tasks using Wikis or other online, interactive tools
  • Experience with basic network configuration (subnetting, routing, firewalls)
  • Testing mobile phone software that connects to remote resources

  • BS/BA IT Computer Science or equivalent degree
